Seabirds on Substack

Why do Seabirds CIC write articles and share videos?

It’s just one way we raise funds to achieve our social objectives; to make the sea swimming community in Brighton and Hove more diverse and inclusive. We ask readers to pay for a subscription.

Articles that provide;

1. Guidance- help to navigate complex safe swimming information and encouragement to connect with the sea

2. Skill Development - encourage the self efficacy that comes when you can read the sea and make safe swim choices

3. Emotional Support - stories that resonate, invoke a sense of belonging and your vulnerabilities being heard

4. Fun! - to share the joy of swimming in the sea

5. Collective Social Impact - what a community can achieve when it comes together. Friendship & fundraising.

A paid subscription raises funds so that more people can access the sea and realise the benefits of being part of a sea swimming community. Every subscriptions pays for beginner and aquaphobic specialised lessons for adults that are currently underrepresented in the outdoor swimming community.

95% of black adults and 80 per cent of black children in England do not swim. We want to do something to change this and we need you to help fund it! We currently facilitate courses of swimming lessons for local refugees and asylum seekers and then introduce them to the sea and our sea swimming community.
